2008 Grand Tour-Cancelled

June 25 - July 9, 2008

Grand Tetons to the Corn Palace

Beautiful scenery and Historic Sites! A must do trip!
You’ve certainly enjoyed a variety of experiences on the Northwest Adventure trip, but you can join us on the route to the Amana Colonies and our 2008 International Rally for even more fun!
Our next adventure begins in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; a grand beginning indeed. The Grand Tetons stand in splendor waiting for our arrival. Grand Teton National Park is one of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring places in America. Occupying a majority of the Jackson Hole valley, the park is home to overwhelming, massive mountains, pristine lakes and rivers, and abundant, teeming wildlife.
The Teton Range - with peaks rising as much as 7,000 feet off the valley floor - is the centerpiece of the park. Views from either of the two main roads, which run north-south through the park, are nothing short of spectacular. The unique and beautiful landscape here compliments our next stop, West Yellowstone, Montana. When it comes to summertime activities the West Yellowstone area is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The long summer days provide visitors unlimited access to explore and play in the splendor of the high country. In addition to the regal Yellowstone National Park right next door with its famous geysers, wildlife and waterfalls, there's adventure to be found just to the West. Hebgen Lake with its miles and miles of shoreline offers camping, boating, canoeing and some of the best fishing around. Still further along are the intriguing old gold mining towns of Virginia and Nevada Cities.
Maybe best of all, you can just relax and enjoy Montana 's legendary hospitality surrounded by scenery that will make you wish you had more time to spend here.
Following our 3 nights in West Yellowstone we have an overnight stop in Billings, Montana. We then make our way to Rapid City, South Dakota. During our drive there, we’ll stop and see the first national monument, Devils Tower (President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower the first national monument in 1906).
Devils Tower rises 1267 feet above the Belle Fourche River. Once hidden, erosion has revealed Devils Tower. This 1347 acre park is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands. Deer, prairie dogs, and other wildlife are seen.
With four days in Rapid City we will have time to explore the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore National Park, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park and even slip in an afternoon of horseback riding if you want.
Making our way to our final destination we will make one more overnight stop in Wall, South Dakota and have time to explore the World Famous Wall Drug Store. Wall Drug Store got its start during the Depression years by offering Free Ice Water to thirsty travelers. From their beginning in 1931 to today, the family-owned and run business continues what their reputation was and is built on — giving friendly service to the public!
We conclude this feast for the eyes in Mitchell, South Dakota. With two nights here we have time to visit the Corn Palace or the Enchanted World of Dolls Museum.
The views along this trip are MAGNIFICENT and almost never-ending. How could you possibly bring enough film? Bring the digital, with an extra chip! Join us for a great excursion and a chance to meet more of your SunnyTravelers!
