2008 Northwest Adventure-Cancelled
June 8 - 22, 2008
Vancouver, B.C. to Portland, Oregon
Join us in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!
|
Let’s start at the very top. This is the most beautiful beginning you will ever experience in your travels. One of the great gardens of the world, Butchart Gardens will be the centerpiece of our first full tour day from our base of Vancouver, British Columbia. We will ferry from Vancouver to Vancouver Island and charming Victoria, the home of Butchart Gardens, fifty-five acres of wonderful floral display. The Gardens are open to the public, offering spectacular views from the many paths that meander through the four main gardens. From the exquisite Sunken Garden to the charming Rose Garden, the gracious traditions of the past are still maintained in one of the loveliest corners in the world. Rather than a traditional welcome dinner, we will enjoy a Welcome Garden Luncheon. We’ll whale watch before we head stateside, on a 4 hour cruise. We will tour southern Vancouver Island, Victoria and the gulf islands. Look for the Needle in the Sky to find our next destination! Seattle, Washington splendor awaits us, as we go from petal plants to power plants, and get up close and personal with Boeing Aircraft during our Plant Tour. Our city tour will familiarize us with Seattle’s most notable sights. At Tillicum Village savor a delicious buffet inside the huge cedar longhouse featuring a delectable Northwest Coast Indian style baked salmon and a spectacular dance show. The talented Tillicum Village Dancers bring to life the legends of the Northwest Coast in a captivating, magically unique performance. Enjoy a picturesque cruise on Puget Sound with island, mountain and spectacular Seattle skyline views. Mount Rainier pokes the sky, inviting us to explore her beauty. This will be an optional tour. Mount Rainier is an active Cascade volcano encased in over 35 square miles of snow and glacial ice. The 14,410’ mountain is surrounded by lush old growth forests, spectacular sub alpine meadows and a National Historic Landmark District that showcases the "NPS Rustic" style architecture of the 1920s and 1930s. Astoria, Oregon will be our home for the next 3 nights. Here we will take a Coastal Scenic Tour, and stop for a Cheese Factory Tour. Our last day here is a free day to explore. The Columbia River Museum comes highly recommended. Next stop, Portland! More beautiful gardens are ours to explore as we tour the city. We’ll have a free day here to catch some of the interesting things we learned about on our tour. There’s a great Portland Underground tour you may enjoy, or if you love food, there is a Portland Epicurean Adventure. Other possibilities in the Portland/Vancouver area include a Chelatchie Railroad Ride, the Pendleton Woolen Mills, Pearson Air Museum, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, and Officers Row with 22 Victorian Homes. We will enjoy a Columbia Gorge River Tour before our Farewell Dinner, and say goodbye, at our Farewell Breakfast. We've certainly enjoyed a variety of experiences on this trip, and hope you can continue with us on the route to Amana, Iowa and our International Rally for more! The next adventure begins in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Won't you join us on the Grand Tour? Sunday, June 08, 2008 Vancouver, BC Registration & Welcome Hospitality
